Haygarth is the UK’s leading independent marketing communications agency, who as well as providing traditional marketing services, offer a wide range of creative services from design to branding for many of the world’s leading companies. The Best Companies Accreditation scheme has voted them the best company to work for, four years running.

Haygarth’s existing network security infrastructure consisted of Nokia Checkpoint firewalls. Support renewal was due for the Nokia Checkpoint firewalls and deemed too expensive for dated equipment. To this end Haygarth’s IT manager sought an alternative cheaper solution without compromise.

Haygarth approached Virtual Tech with a view to implementing a secure networking solution, which would be cost effective, provide industry standard levels of security and secure remote access for their staff.

Virtual Tech chose a Cisco solution as a suitable replacement and enhancement for Haygarth’s current Nokia firewalls. An analysis of the existing firewall’s configurations and rules was undertaken to ensure a seamless migration. Two Cisco ASA 5510 firewall’s were provisioned in an active/passive configuration for redundancy.

The following process was followed for configuration of the Cisco ASA 5510 firewalls:

  • Interface setup
  • Network configuration
  • DMZ setup
  • Access list design and implementation
  • Routing
  • Global translation and NAT translation rules
  • Failover setup
  • Verify ASA configuration
  • VPN remote access setup
  • VPN client software deployment

Failover testing and verification of the implementation was carried out to enable project sign off from Haygarth. Virtual Tech also provided Haygarth with 2 weeks complimentary support and training for continued operation of their Cisco ASA network security infrastructure.
